Dogs are welcome in the beer garden and bar area. When booking online, select the bar option (if it isn’t available, it usually means they are full). There’s often live acoustic music, an open mic night on Sundays, and sports on the TV screens.

The Royal George
The Royal George, a proper gem in Appledore, boasts a stylish interior, excellent service, and a menu that will leave you planning your next visit. The menu is a celebration of locally sourced dishes, thanks to their collaboration with nearby farms and suppliers. From hearty breakfasts to sumptuous Sunday roasts, there’s something for every palate here.
Dogs are welcome in the bar area (downstairs) and outside, making it a great al fresco dining choice. The outdoor seating has estuary views and is perfect for watching the world go by with your pup at your side.

The Seagate
At The Seagate, you, your family, and your dog can expect a warm welcome and a fantastic selection of food and drink. With its prime location along the quay, it’s a great spot to check out the boats bobbing along the estuary while enjoying a meal. The cosy atmosphere, especially in the winter when you can get cosy in front of the roaring fire, will make you feel right at home.
The menu is based on using the best ingredients from the land and sea. The Seagate Appledore reviews praise dishes like the Aspall Cyder battered fish, North Devon fish pie, West Country sirloin steak and other pub classics.

The Champ
The Champfield, affectionately known as The Champ, is one of those places where you feel like a local the second you walk in. This traditional pub has a great selection of beers, live music nights and plenty of dog-loving regulars. Its local charm and low-key atmosphere make it an excellent spot for a quiet drink and a chat, giving you a sense of belonging and community.
As its small and cosy, they don’t serve their own food. However, you can bring your own or get a takeaway next door at Sylvester’s Fish and Chips or The Flame Factory, which serves pizza.

The Royal Hotel
The Royal is a traditional pub found down one of Appledore’s narrowest pedestrian lanes, surrounded by the cottages a few steps from the quay. It is no longer a hotel but retains its historic name.
It is a popular spot for dog owners to watch sports on the TV or watch local talent at one of the weekly jamming sessions. There’s live music during the week and on weekends, quiz nights, and a weekly Knit and Knatter. Like The Champ, it doesn’t serve food, but you’re welcome to buy fish and chips from the Royal Plaice and eat them here.

The Yard Appledore
For something a little different, head to The Yard. It’s super dog-friendly and one of the best restaurants in Appledore. The informal setting makes it a great stop for a relaxed evening. It’s one of the oldest buildings in Appledore, dating back to the 16th Century, and is named after the famous shipyard. The 2 tables by the fireplace and the long table by the window were made by inmates at Dartmoor Prison as part of a charity rehabilitation programme.
You can enjoy small plates and tapas dishes alongside local craft beer, exceptional wines and cocktails. Think antipasti sharers, skewers, pulled pork dirty fries, crispy calamari, prawn tacos and patatas bravas.
