A family-run burger joint on Hay Road, this spot welcomes dogs inside or out. Hills Brecon offer gourmet burgers and even whip up a single-patty for pups! I recommend booking, as we’ve tried to ‘pop in’ on a whim a few times and have been turned away.

If you’ve got a car and a wagging tail in the back seat, head just outside town to discover these characterful country pubs near Brecon – perfect after a walk through the rolling hills and valleys.

Tai’r Bull Inn

Nestled just outside of town along the A470, Tai’r Bull Inn is a welcoming country pub with open fires, cracking mountain views and a dog-friendly attitude – they love dogs!. It’s the kind of place where muddy boots and mucky paws are no problem at all. The food is also exceptional! And, there are free sausages for dogs!

Don’t let the cheeky name fool you – this is one of the friendliest spots around. A proper village pub with hearty meals and local ales, dogs are welcome throughout. A top choice for those exploring the quieter corners of the Brecon Beacons.

Dinas Castle Inn

High up in the hills, the Dinas Castle Inn is a proper walker’s pub. If you’ve been trekking around the Black Mountains, this is the perfect place to rest your feet – and your dog’s paws. There’s even a beer garden with sweeping views. They’re proud of sourcing their meat from the local butchers and keeping ingredients locally sourced and seasonal where possible. All food is cooked to order, so there might be a slight wait – but it’ll be worth it!

Another countryside classic alongside the canal, the Royal Oak delivers on food, drink, and canine hospitality. A historic coaching inn that’s packed with charm, roaring fires, and real ales. The Bear is super dog-friendly – whether you’re popping in for lunch or staying the night. There’s a cosy bar where pups are welcome, and the food is known far and wide for being hearty and delicious.

Dog Friendly Brecon

Brecon is one of the most dog friendly places. So, whether you’re after a lazy lunch, a local ale, or a hearty dinner with the family, Brecon has something for everyone – two legs or four! Don’t forget to explore the lovely cafes, keep an eye out for special offers, and most importantly, bring your best friend along for the ride. Because pub adventures are always better with paws on the floor and a treat under the table.


How to Get to Brecon

Driving? The main car park is The Watton, with 220 spaces and EV charging facilities. You can pay and display during the day. It is free after 6pm and on Sundays.

No car? No problem. Take the train to Abergavenny or Merthyr Tydfil, the closest train station to Brecon. In Abergavenny, you can hop on the X43 Stagecoach bus or the T4 from Merthyr. Both run hourly, Monday to Saturday, and operate on a reduced service on Sundays. They don’t operate late into the evening, so be mindful of the last time.

If you know when you’d like to travel, try to book as soon as possible. Prices rise the closer you get to the travel date and are usually displayed per room rather than per person. However, there is a vast array of options to accommodate all budgets, from camping to holiday cottages and hotels.
