St Mawes to Falmouth Ferry
The boat ride across the Fal Estuary is a mini-adventure in itself. Dogs ride free, and you’ll both enjoy the sea breeze as you glide across to Falmouth. Once there, you can visit the National Maritime Museum, browse the quirky shops and enjoy a bite to eat.

The town has a relaxed, artsy vibe and is packed with charm, making it a brilliant half-day trip or more from St Mawes.

Hungry? There are loads of places to eat in St Mawes with your dog. We had no trouble finding dog friendly pubs and restaurants with water bowls, shady spots, and a warm welcome.
- The Rising Sun – Cosy pub vibes, sea views, and hearty Cornish fare. Dogs are welcome inside and out.
- The Watch House – This is fancier but still welcoming to well-behaved pups. Great for seafood.
- St Mawes Seafood Bar – Fresh, local, and right by the water. Perfect for lunch.
- Victory Inn – Old-school pub with a cracking pint and dog biscuits behind the bar.
Stay in St Mawes
If you know when you’d like to travel, try to book as soon as possible. Prices rise the closer you get to the travel date and are usually displayed per room rather than per person. However, there is a vast array of options to accommodate all budgets.
Ship and Castle
Want to wake up with views of the harbour and be steps from the castle? We stayed at the Ship and Castle Hotel, which offers dog-friendly rooms with serious sea-view perks. We were upgraded to a balcony room overlooking the harbour — Ivan absolutely loved people-watching and boat-spotting from his new favourite spot. The room was clean and modern, and he had space for his bed and bowls, plus essentials like a coffee pod machine and good WiFi. Parking’s easy too, with a nearby pay-and-display just a minute away (only £6 for 24 hours).
Holiday Cottages
National Trust Holidays offers a selection of historic cottages, campsites and bunkhouses set in spectacular locations. Sleeping 2 – 12 guests, they have everything you need for a night away, from kitchen facilities to cosy gardens to relax in during warmer weather.
