Taffs Well Inn Reviews
Right in the heart of the village, the Taffs Well Inn is one of those laid-back places where you can kick back, relax, and enjoy a pint with your pooch by your side. The staff are fab, and there’s plenty of room for dogs inside and out. Though on a sunny day, the beer garden is the place to be, with a beautiful view of The Garth Mountain.
Whether you’re after fish and chips, a classic burger and chips, or the curry of the day, you’ll find something to hit the spot on the Taffs Well Inn menu. There’s even ice cream for dogs if you want to treat them.
It’s a great place to catch up with friends, and your dog will probably make a few new mates too!

Fagin’s Ale & Chop House
Fagin’s Taffs Well is known for its fantastic range of real ales and ciders. With flagstone floors, a beer cellar in the floor and roaring fires in the winter. The food is top-notch too. There are traditional dishes, plus specials like chicken schnitzel, baked cod and tomato and olive gnocchi.
They’re really dog-friendly, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. It’s the kind of place where your dog gets fussed over by everyone, and you’ll probably end up staying longer than you planned!

The Swan Inn Taffs Well
The Swan Inn has all the old-school pub vibes I love โ friendly faces, a crackling fire in the colder months, and a decent selection of drinks. And yes, dogs are very welcome! It’s the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon or a pit stop after a long walk.

Gwaelod Y Garth Inn
This one’s a gem! Nestled at the foot of Garth Mountain (perfect for a post-walk refresh), Gwaelod-y- Garth Inn is a cosy, dog-friendly pub with a warm welcome โ downstairs and in the beer garden. The locals love a chinwag, and the atmosphere is as friendly as it gets.
They serve cracking ales and proper homemade food. The menu focuses on locally sourced ingredients, and the neighbouring farmers are encouraged to bring their surplus stock. I think it’s the best Sunday lunch in Cardiff!
If your dog’s anything like mine, they’ll be plotting how to sneak something from your plate! But there are dogs dinners on the menu (sausages and gravy), and there’s always a water bowl ready for the furry visitors.

Stay at the Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn
If you fancy making a night of it, the Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn offers cosy rooms! After a day exploring the nearby Garth Mountain and an evening tucking into hearty homemade food (and maybe a pint or two), you can settle in for a peaceful nightโs sleep. Itโs the perfect base for a countryside escape – and close enough to explore Cardiff. And, the price includes breakfast!
Lewis Arms Hotel
The Lewis Arms Hotel (which is no longer a hotel) is the kind of place where the staff greet your dog before they even say hello to you – not that I’m complaining! It’s super welcoming, with plenty of space both inside and out. After a wander along the Taff Trail or Castell Coch, this is one of my favourite stops for a well-earned drink.
The menu features lasagne, juicy hunter’s chicken, and a hearty steak and ale pie that’s hard to beat. There’s a decent vegetarian selection, too โ the BBQ cauliflower wings are surprisingly moreish.

Ty Nant Inn
The Ty Nant Inn is a traditional pub with proper pub grub. It’s the same chain โ Marstons – as The Lewis Arms, so they have the same menu. There’s mac n cheese, to which you can add pulled pork or piri piri chicken, a chicken tikka masala, and vegetable or beef chilli.
Dogs are welcome in the bar area and outside. They have a fantastic beer garden out the front for sunny days, with a climbing frame for kids.
