Perched high on the hill with sweeping views over the sparkling waters of South East Cornwall, Nancecliff is the kind of place that feels instantly like home. It’s stylish, comfortable, and wonderfully dog friendly – a rare combination that makes it perfect for everything from last minute short breaks to multi-generational holidays in Looe Cornwall.

But why should you choose Nancecliff over the myriad of Looe holiday cottages or hotels? Pour yourself a cup of tea (or a glass of wine – no judgment here) and let me guide you through our comprehensive review of this stunning Cornish property. By the end, you’ll have a detailed understanding of what makes Nancecliff a standout choice for your holiday.

Sea View Dog Friendly Cottages Cornwall

Looe is one of those classic South West destinations that has the best of both worlds. On one hand, you’ve got sandy beaches, working fishing boats, and cream teas that could defeat the hungriest hiker. On the other hand, there are hidden coves, smugglers’ tales, and winding lanes that make every wander feel like an adventure.

When it comes to holiday cottages in Looe with sea views, Nancecliff is among the top choices. Situated in West Looe, it offers the perfect balance of being close to the main town’s activities and yet provides a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. Whether you’re planning a summer break, a refreshing winter escape, or a spontaneous short break, this property not only meets but exceeds all your expectations.

Dog Friendly Nancecliff Cottage Review

We stayed at Nancecliff as a family – my partner, my parents, and, of course, Ivan, our four-legged explorer. The stay was exceptional from start to finish, with thoughtful touches, top-notch facilities, and that all-important sea view.

First Impressions & Access

We did struggle a little to find the property at first – it’s about two-thirds of the way up the hill on the right-hand side – but once we’d spotted it, everything was smooth sailing. Access was easy thanks to a keycode sent a few days before arrival, which meant no fussing around with key pickups or waiting around for a host.

A Home From Home

As we stepped inside, Nancecliff surpassed our expectations. The accommodation in Looe was spotless, beautifully decorated in a nautical theme, and immediately inviting. Pastries were left out for us to enjoy, and Ivan was treated with his own doggy goody bag – filled with treats, a toy, and even a Nancecliff bandana. These thoughtful touches truly elevate a holiday home from good to unforgettable.

The décor throughout was fresh and coastal, with thoughtful amenities at every turn. There was a coat rack and shoe space at the entrance – perfect after soggy Cornish walks – and both the dining room and living room had us imagining what it would be like to live here full time.

Living Spaces

The dining room became our social hub, perfect for family breakfasts and late-night card games. The living room was equally inviting, with comfortable seating, a basket of dog toys, and a large nautical map print that set the tone for seaside adventures. A TV with NowTV was available, though we never even switched it on – the view and the company were more than enough entertainment. We did, however, enjoy playing music on the Alexa!

The Kitchen & Facilities

The kitchen was impressively stocked. From mugs and glasses to pots, pans, and even a little breakfast bar with stools, it had everything you could want for a self-catering stay. Other than bacon, we didn’t cook anything here. Just used the toaster and kettle. There was even a set of optics on the wall, for anyone fancying a holiday cocktail.

A downstairs loo was super handy. But the dog-friendly shower room (with access from outside) was a brilliant idea – ideal for washing sandy paws before they trotted through the house.

Garden & Outdoor Space

There are two garden seating areas: one located right outside the front door (perfect for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine) and a raised decking area with a BBQ and jaw-dropping sea views. The latter is reached via a slightly uneven path, so it wasn’t ideal for my mum, who isn’t always steady on her feet, but if you can get up there, the view is worth it.

The enclosed garden is great, but if your dog is a bit of an escape artist, keep them on a lead – Ivan would have had no trouble exploring further than he should. We had trouble keeping him out of the bushes.

The garden itself was full of blackberries and apple trees – a lovely surprise, and a true reminder that Cornish cottages often come with a slice of countryside charm.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Nancecliff sleeps five across two doubles and a single room, each carrying the coastal décor upstairs, too. Think “Narnia-style” wardrobes, light blues, and beachy accessories. Even Ivan made himself at home – ignoring his favourite CosyPaws bed in favour of curling up under ours.

There are two bathrooms, one equipped with a bathtub and the other with a shower. My mum relished her soak in the tub, while the rest of us stuck to the showers – great pressure, plenty of hot water, but slightly smaller towels than I’d have liked. As an adult staying with my parents, I had to put my PJs back on to cross the hall. Whereas if the towel covered me, I could have just made the dash.

It was a hot weekend too, and a couple of fans would have been welcome, especially as some of the radiators seemed to have a mind of their own. Well, they were on, and we couldn’t work out how to turn them off!

Holiday Cottages in Looe with Parking

Parking in Looe can sometimes be a challenge, but Nancecliff offers a convenient solution. With a designated parking space directly opposite the house in an open-air car park, you can keep an eye on your vehicle from the bedrooms, ensuring its safety and your peace of mind.

As we’d travelled in two cars, one had to be parked further up the hill in a nearby housing estate. If you’re planning a multi-car trip, bear this in mind.

Pet Friendly Holiday Lets Sea Views Looe

Why Book Nancecliff?

Nancecliff is one of those properties that effortlessly blends style, comfort, and practicality. The beach house offers sea views, thoughtful amenities, and genuine dog-friendly touches. Unlike some holiday rentals in Looe Cornwall that claim to be pet friendly but don’t provide much for dogs, this House makes them feel just as welcome as their humans.

If you’re browsing Looe holiday rentals or reviews and want something that feels like a real home rather than a generic property, this is the one to check out.

Get The Train to Looe

Travelling to Looe by train is not only easy but wonderfully scenic. The mainline Great Western Railway brings you into Liskeard from London Paddington, Exeter, Bristol and beyond, where you simply hop on the little Looe Valley Line. This dog friendly branch line meanders through wooded valleys and alongside the estuary. Pups travel free, and the journey feels like part of the holiday itself. Once you roll into Looe station, you’re just a few minutes’ walk from the harbour, cafés and beaches – no car required.

Dog Friendly Looe

Of course, no dog friendly holiday cottages review would be complete without discussing the location. East Looe is the hub of the town, with narrow lanes, shops, and cafés spilling onto the main town beach. It’s compact and framed by the Banjo Pier and rocky headlands.

West Looe, on the other hand, has a slower pace, with pubs and little shops that feel more local. Together, they make holidays in Looe Cornwall, perfect for families, couples, and dog lovers alike.

There are plenty of dog friendly walks in the area, from riverside strolls to more rugged South Coast Path adventures. And if you fancy heading inland, Bodmin Moor is within reach for wild, dramatic landscapes.

Looe Dog Friendly Beach

Hannafore Beach is the closest dog friendly spot, just a short walk from town, and is brilliant for rock pooling, ball throwing, and watching the tide creep in. Talland Bay is another nearby gem, boasting calm waters and ample space for dogs to splash about. There are plenty of beaches near Looe that you can visit with your dog.

(Handy tip: double-check tide times before heading out. At low tide, beaches are expansive; at high tide, you may find yourself squeezed for space!)

Looe Dog Friendly Restaurants

Hungry? You’re spoiled for choice. Looe is packed with dog friendly restaurants and cafés. Many have outdoor seating with sea views, while others happily let well-behaved pups snooze under the table. Whether you’re after a seafood platter, a Cornish pasty, or a cream tea (jam first, of course), you won’t have to leave your dog behind.

There are also plenty of dog friendly pubs in Looe. Some of our favourites are the Ye Olde Salutation Inn, The Golden Guinea, Harbour Moon and the Jolly Sailor – which is one of the oldest pubs in the UK (and reportedly haunted).

Day Trips from Looe

One of the joys of staying in Looe is how many brilliant day trips are right on your doorstep. From picture-perfect fishing villages to historic castles and scenic ferry rides, there’s no shortage of adventures within a short drive (or even a boat hop!) from town.

Polperro

Just minutes along the coast is Polperro, one of Cornwall’s most picturesque villages, and there are plenty of things to do with your dog. With narrow streets, whitewashed cottages, and a harbour straight off a postcard, it’s a must-visit. We love it for a dog friendly pub crawl – there’s nothing like sipping a pint while your pup snoozes happily by your feet.

Lostwithiel

Head inland to Lostwithiel, a charming town known for its antiques and history. Restormel Castle is the star attraction, a ruined circular castle with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Dogs are welcome on a lead, making it a brilliant family outing. Plus, English Heritage Members get FREE entry.

Fowey

Hop on the Bodinnick Ferry (car ferry) and you’ll find yourself in Fowey, a lively town full of shops, eateries, and waterfront walks. It’s great for a day out, with dog friendly pubs and plenty of places to pick up an ice cream. We highly recommend Readymoney Cove and discovering St Catherine’s Castle.

Mevagissey

Further along the coast, Mevagissey is a traditional fishing village with winding streets and colourful cottages. It’s another excellent spot for a day trip, and the harbour is a delight to wander around with your pup. You can also take a boat trip from Fowey!

Don’t Get Caught Short 💩

Tuff Pets Dog Poop Bags are premium, extra-thick, and environmentally friendly, providing a reliable and eco-conscious solution for pet waste. These zero-waste, home-compostable poo bags allow pet owners to care for their pets and the planet simultaneously, making walkies so much easier.

Rating Nancecliff in Looe

So, what’s the verdict? For us, Nancecliff is one of the best Looe holiday homes. It gets an exceptional glowing rating. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s a Cornish cottage that makes you feel part of the area. The location, the facilities, the thoughtfulness for dogs – it all adds up to a holiday home that’s easy to recommend.

Sure, the hill might get your heart racing, the towels could be a tad bigger, and escape-artist dogs might need a lead in the garden. But these are tiny niggles compared to everything Nancecliff offers.

For families, couples, and especially those travelling with dogs, it’s an absolute gem. If you’re scrolling through lists of dog friendly holiday cottages in Looe Cornwall, stop right here – this one’s a winner.
