Is Knightshayes Dog Friendly?
Absolutely! Is Knightshayes dog friendly? Yes – dogs are welcome throughout the formal and woodland gardens, parkland, Impey Walk, reception, shop, café, and even the second-hand bookshop.
There are water bowls in the courtyard and plenty of shaded spots for a rest. The main rules: dogs must stay on short leads, and they’re not allowed inside Knightshayes House, the kitchen garden, or on the Douglas Fir Walk – which you enter through a gate.

A Gothic Revival Marvel
When you enter Knightshayes House, you’ll see colourful interiors, detailed designs, and rooms full of character. William Burges designed the house in the 1860s, and it feels more like a real home than a museum. The bright colours, decorated walls, and unique details make exploring each room interesting.
Although dogs can’t go inside, there’s still lots for you and your dog to enjoy around the estate. Hopefully, you can visit with others and take it in turns to go inside.

Layered Beauty and Relaxed Paths
Outside the house, Knightshayes Gardens stretch out with terraces, flower beds, and winding paths. There’s always something blooming, like camellias, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, and bright perennials. The formal gardens are great for a relaxed walk, with wide paths, gentle slopes, and benches where you can enjoy views right across the Devon countryside.
Dogs on short leads are welcome in the gardens, so you can bring your pup along.
