If your idea of a perfect afternoon involves a cosy pub, good grub, and a dog snoozing under the table, you’re in luck. These spots are made for muddy boots, post-walk pints, and the kind of hearty meals that make you want to linger a little longer.

Pont-y-Pair Inn

This is a proper, no-nonsense pub where the menu reads like a greatest hits of comfort food: fish and chips, sausage and mash, or, if you’re feeling extra, a venison casserole that’ll warm you right through. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, and the staff are the friendly sort who actually chat.

There’s always something going on at Pont-y-Pair, from live music to Wellness Wednesdays (yes, free Reiki in a pub is a thing). We visited during the Six Nations, booked a table, and cheered on Wales in the rugby with our local countrymen – highly recommended.

Stay The Night

There are 10 stylish en-suite bedrooms here, so you can roll straight from dinner to a comfy bed. Expect WiFi, tea and coffee for those early starts, and HD TVs for lazy evenings. Selected rooms are dog-friendly.

Start your day with one of Pont y Pair’s epic breakfasts. If you fancy a treat, go for the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal: a main course from the menu, a proper night’s sleep, and a Welsh breakfast that’ll keep you going till lunchtime (at least).

Gwydyr Hotel

If you’re after a bit of ‘posh pub’ but still want to rock up in your walking boots, the Gwydyr Hotel’s bar area is spot on – and yes, dogs are welcome.

The menu covers all the bases: leek and mushroom risotto, chicken linguine, crispy chilli beef, and grilled seabass. Don’t skip the bara brith bread-and-butter pudding with custard, it’s a real treat. It’s a top spot for Sunday Lunch too.

Stay The Night

If you like your stays with a side of history and a dash of old-world charm, Gwydyr Hotel is one of the oldest in Wales. Think period features, cosy corners, and just the right amount of character.

Rooms are comfy and kitted out with everything you need after a day of exploring – TV, tea and coffee, and your own bathroom. Take your pick from singles, doubles, twins, family rooms, or a deluxe if you’re feeling fancy. Best of all, it’s dog-friendly in selected areas.

Glan Aber Hotel

Another solid choice for classic pub food, with dogs welcome in both the bar and lounge at Glan Aber Hotel & Bunkhouse. It’s relaxed, right in the centre of things, and perfect if you want a proper sit-down meal without any faff.

Lunch at Glan Aber means soups, sandwiches, and jacket potatoes. Come evening, you can tuck into lamb shank, vegan lasagne, a giant Yorkshire pudding stuffed to the brim, or a classic ploughman’s. No one’s leaving hungry.

Stay The Night

Bang in the centre of Betws-y-Coed, Glan Aber Hotel is ideal if you want everything within arm’s reach. Rooms come with all the essentials for a proper break: tea, coffee, biscuits (the good kind), a flat-screen TV, and bedding so comfy you might just skip your next walk. Up to two dogs are welcome in most rooms for a small charge.

If you’re after a bit of pampering, there’s a spa room, plus a shiny new sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi – just the thing for tired legs after a day on the trails.

There’s also a bunkhouse, perfect for groups, hikers, or anyone who’d rather spend their cash on cake than a fancy room. It’s simple, friendly, and right where you need it for a good night’s rest after a day outdoors.

Ty Gwyn Coaching Inn

Ty Gwyn is all charm and old-school coaching inn vibes – a 16th-century spot overlooking the Conwy River. It’s cosy, historic, and the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and savour the evening.

Traditional pub food is the name of the game here, and dogs are welcome in the bar area. The menu is all about local produce – think steamed Conwy mussels, Anglesey lobster, roasted pork belly, and a mushroom and pine-nut stroganoff that even non-vegans will eye up.

Stay The Night

This traditional coaching inn offers a wide range of beautifully styled rooms, from cosy doubles to indulgent four-poster suites, making it easy to find something that suits your trip.

Most rooms are en-suite, but a few have private bathrooms just outside. Expect all the essentials: TV, tea and coffee, and some seriously quirky touches – think exposed Welsh stone walls, spa baths, copper tubs, private balconies, and views worth waking up for. Some rooms are dog-friendly for a small extra charge.
Every stay includes a freshly prepared Welsh breakfast made with the best local ingredients – exactly what you want before a day of exploring.

Swallow Falls Inn

Cosy, full of character, and so dog-friendly it almost feels like your pup is the guest of honour. After a day chasing waterfalls and forest trails, Swallow Falls Inn is exactly where you want to end up. It’s just had a £1 million makeover, so expect modern touches with plenty of style.

The menu is packed with pub classics – steak and ale pie, Thai curry, butternut squash ravioli, venison fettuccine – and the vibe is as relaxed as it gets. There are loads of space for dogs to sprawl out, and plenty of dog-friendly corners in both the pub and restaurant.

Download their app, The Inn Crowd. Every time you have a bite to eat, grab a drink or stay the night, you can earn reward points. I was even given a free drink for having our room serviced.

Stay The Night

We did! I made a small mistake when booking here; I didn’t realise it’s a 40-minute walk into the village. So, you have to do it on the way back, too. Luckily, it was a dry weekend. It would have been a miserable walk if it had been pouring with rain. The bus stop is also outside, and buses run hourly.

Part of the Inn Collection Group, this place ticks every box for a dog-friendly stay in North Wales. Bedrooms are made for walkers – cosy, comfy, and perfect for drying out after a soggy day. The en-suites are modern and spotless, and include free Wi-Fi, free parking, and EV chargers. Thanks to its out-of-the-way spot, it’s blissfully quiet at night.

There’s also a scenic 30-pitch campsite and camping pods. Each pod comes equipped with a comfortable bed, lighting, heating, and storage, offering the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and home-from-home convenience.

Betws-y-Coed Restaurants

If you’re looking for something a bit more casual-restaurant than pub, these are great options – and yes, dogs are still invited.

Y Stablau – Stables Bar

Y Stablau is as relaxed as they come – a proper crowd-pleaser. The menu is packed with local goodness: burgers, steaks, pizzas, and pub classics like half roast chicken, tikka masala, lamb and leek sausage and mash, or a farmhouse platter that’s made for sharing.

They don’t take bookings, and even on busy days, there’s usually only a short wait for a table. You can order at the bar or via the QR codes on your phone.

Dogs are more than welcome. There are plenty of water bowls that you can fill from a barrel. Dogs can even dine with you, with a dog menu, or sausages cooked to order.

Tapas fans, this one’s for you. Olif serves small plates full of flavour, and dogs are welcome in the bar area. Perfect if you fancy sharing dishes, lingering over drinks, and pretending you’re not completely exhausted from hill walking.

Classic Spanish tapas gets a Welsh makeover here – think baked Perl Wen (that’s a dreamy local cheese), grazing boards, Anglesey eggs, Caerphilly salad, slow-cooked beef, patatas bravas, spicy tiger prawns, Menai mussels, and puddings you’ll want to save room for.

Hangin’ Pizzeria

Sometimes only pizza will do, and Hangin’ Pizzeria delivers. Casual, easy-going and dog-friendly, it’s ideal for an unfussy dinner when everyone (including the dog) is ready to flop.

Breakfast baps are served in the morning, including bacon, sausage, egg and vegan alternatives. Pizzas are served all day. There are classic toppings, alongside exciting creations such as Welsh rarebit (leeks marinated in Welsh cider, wholegrain mustard, and cheese). Plus, vegan pizzas. For those who want a lighter bite, there are salads.

Brilliant for something quick and tasty, and dogs are welcome. Think sandwiches, quiche, jacket potatoes, pizza and sweet treats – pancakes, brownies and cheesecake pots. Alongside this, there are teas, iced lattes, and matcha.

If you’re visiting the nearby waterfalls, Conwy Falls Cafe is a must. It was designed by Sir William Clough Ellis to complement the architecture of Portmerion. An absolute icon. Quirky, historic and utterly charming, Ty Hyll, also known as The Ugly House Tearoom, is one of those places you remember long after the trip. Set within a beautiful area, Fforest Caffi is relaxed, outdoorsy and very dog-friendly. It is on the Zip World site, surrounded by glorious Welsh woodland.
