Looking for a dog-friendly hotel in Newquay with easy access to beaches, coastal walks, and great places to eat? During a recent stay at the Pentire Hotel Newquay, I discovered a comfortable and welcoming base just a short walk from Fistral Beach and the Gannel Estuary. Travelling with my dog (and my mum), I found plenty to like, including dog-friendly rooms, free parking, sea views, and a location that makes exploring Cornwall effortless. While there are a few areas for improvement, the Pentire offers good value and is a convenient choice for anyone looking for a dog-friendly Newquay hotel near the coast.

Hotels in Cornwall Newquay
Cornwall has become one of my favourite destinations for a solo escape with the dog. So, when my boyfriend announced he was heading off on a boys’ holiday to Lanzarote, I saw the perfect opportunity to pack the car, grab the lead, and head south.
I was originally looking for a safe, comfortable single-occupancy room where I could enjoy a few days away on my own (well, and with Ivan). Having visited Newquay before, I wanted somewhere close to the beach, dog-friendly places to eat, and ideally a hotel bar for a quiet drink before bed. Then Mum decided she fancied a break too, so my Standard Single quickly became a Deluxe Twin Room.
The Pentire Hotel stood out because of its location. Sitting on Pentire Headland between Fistral Beach and the Gannel Estuary, it offers easy access to some of the best coastal scenery in Cornwall.
Newquay Cornwall Hotels With A Great Location
The Pentire is perfectly positioned for exploring Newquay on foot.
Fistral Beach is around a 15-minute walk away, while the South West Coast Path and Gannel Estuary are practically on the doorstep. For dog owners, that’s a huge advantage. Morning walks don’t require getting in the car, and there are plenty of routes nearby for stretching both human and canine legs.
Among the many Newquay Hotels, location is undoubtedly the Pentire’s strongest selling point.

Pentire Hotel Newquay Rooms
Before booking, I called the hotel to check which rooms were dog-friendly. The good news is that most rooms welcome dogs. There is a £15 charge per night, with a maximum of 2 dogs per room.
Our Deluxe Twin Room includes:
- Ocean views across the Atlantic and Fistral Beach
- Twin beds
- Tea and coffee-making facilities
- Television
- Desk and chairs
- Wardrobe
- Bedside tables with plug sockets
- Bath with overhead shower
- Complimentary toiletries
- Plenty of floor space for a dog bed

The room itself was bright, clean and comfortable. The towels were fluffy, the toiletries were a nice touch, and there was plenty of room for both luggage and dog paraphernalia. That said, there were some visible signs of wear and tear. Nothing serious, but enough to remind you that this isn’t a boutique luxury hotel.
One slightly odd design feature was the toilet, which had been fitted extremely close to the wall. Let’s just say it wasn’t the most ergonomic setup.
On the plus side, the hotel was remarkably quiet at night. We slept well throughout our stay. The only noise came from the resident seagulls when we left the window open during warm evenings. Which we would have heard, even if it was shut!

Room Types Available
Those travelling with children may appreciate the interconnecting rooms and larger family suites; it’s one of the top family hotels in Newquay. Accommodation options include:
- Single rooms
- Double rooms
- Twin rooms
- Family rooms
- Interconnecting rooms
- Premium Endellion Rooms
- St Piran Suite
Hotel Facilities
The Pentire offers a good range of facilities for guests, including:
- Free WiFi
- Free parking (when booking direct)
- Indoor swimming pool
- Games room
- Lounge bar
- Restaurant
- Beauty treatments
- Hair salon
Parking is complimentary for guests, but don’t forget to register your vehicle at reception. The hotel also welcomes dogs in most public areas, making it a genuinely pet-friendly option compared to many coastal hotels.
One area where the hotel could improve is housekeeping presentation. From around 9am each morning, the corridors became crowded with laundry bags, vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies and trolleys. Working in a hotel myself, I completely understand the demands placed on housekeeping teams. However, it did create a somewhat unprofessional impression that felt out of keeping with the rest of the guest experience.

Leisure Facilities
One reason I chose the hotel was because it advertised a gym. Unfortunately, I was told at check-in that it was closed while equipment was being refurbished. From what I could gather, it may have been unavailable for some time. If gym access is important to your stay, I’d recommend contacting the hotel directly before you book.
The indoor pool was open during our stay and looked well-maintained. The only issue? It was absolutely freezing. I’m quite robust, and once in acclimatised quickly, but Mum lasted less than a minute before deciding enough was enough. If you’re looking for a leisurely spa-style swim, prepare yourself.
Pentire Hotel Beauty Salon
Guests can also make use of The Powder Room, the hotel’s beauty treatment room. There is also Fringe Hair Salon and Nails By Bess. I believe it’s best to book in advance, rather than on the day. If you’re going to one of Newquay’s events, it’s a great spot to get glam’d up.

Pentire Hotel Newquay Restaurant
The main restaurant isn’t dog-friendly, which is understandable. It opens onto an outdoor terrace that would be a lovely spot to sit with your dog during warmer weather – which is a shame. Dogs are welcome in the Lounge Bar and Sixty Bistro.
Pentire Hotel Restaurant – Sixty Bistro
Sixty Bistro opens from 5pm and offers an enormous menu featuring:
- Burgers
- Hot dogs
- Pizza
- Pasta
- Fish dishes
- Curry
- Lasagne
- Traditional British favourites
Personally, I found the menu almost too extensive. It felt as though the restaurant was trying to cater for absolutely everyone rather than focusing on a particular style or speciality. Cornwall has amazing fresh produce; it would have been good to see a condensed menu focusing on local cuisine. As a result, we chose to eat elsewhere during our stay.

Exploring Newquay With The Dog
One of the best things about staying here is how easy it is to explore the local area.
On our first evening, we walked down to Fistral Beach and headed to The Broadmasters. It was one of the first genuinely sunny evenings of the year, and the atmosphere was fantastic. With loaded fries, cold Rattler’s, gin, surfers wandering past and the sun setting over the sea, it delivered exactly the laid-back Cornwall vibe we were looking for.

The following evening, we drove to The Cornishman in nearby Crantock. Expect generous portions, Cornish ales, friendly service and a genuinely dog-friendly atmosphere. There are also regular quiz nights, live music and sports screenings throughout the week.
Although the hotel offers breakfast, I generally prefer a late brunch. Instead, we walked five minutes down the road to Fern Pit Café. Overlooking the Gannel Estuary, it’s one of those places where the view is almost as memorable as the food. Mum chose Eggs Benedict while I opted for Crab Benedict made using locally landed crab.

The Best Dog-friendly Beaches in Newquay
Newquay is a brilliant base for dog-friendly beach days, with plenty of sandy stretches to explore depending on the season. Fistral Beach is one of the most popular spots, with year-round dog access in certain areas and huge open space for long walks. Nearby, Crantock Beach is a real favourite thanks to its wide dunes, estuary views and relaxed feel, with dogs welcome outside of peak restrictions and plenty of space to roam. Towan Beach also allows dogs during off-peak times, and for something quieter, Holywell Bay offers dramatic dunes and a more peaceful walk.

Healeys Cyder Farm
Healeys Cyder Farm is one of Cornwall’s most iconic attractions, offering a full-on countryside experience built around cider, food, animals and hands-on tours. Set just outside Newquay, it’s a working cyder farm where visitors can explore the orchards, learn how Cornish cider is made, and sample everything from scrumpy to spirits in the tasting rooms.

Booking Direct Vs Booking.com
One thing worth mentioning is pricing. When I called the hotel directly to check which rooms were dog-friendly, the rate was actually higher than the one available online, on their own website. That makes no sense to me.
If you’re a Booking.com Genius member, you may find cheaper rates through the platform. However, guests booking through Booking.com may need to pay £10 per night for parking, whereas parking is included when booking directly. If you’re travelling without a car, some of the online offers may work out better value overall.
Newquay Beach Hotels
The Pentire isn’t trying to compete with the best hotels in Newquay, nor does it need to. Instead, it offers a comfortable, well-located base with free parking, dog-friendly accommodation and easy access to beaches, pubs and walking routes.
For anyone searching for the best places to stay in Newquay, or Newquay seafront hotels, it’s certainly worth considering.
But don’t take my word for it. You can also read other Pentire Hotel Newquay Reviews on TripAdvisor.
